Create your first AI agent
This guide walks you through creating your first AI agent with Eloquent and deploying it on your website. You’ll use the visual playground to configure, preview, and interact with your agent in real time.
Step 1: Create a new AI agent
- Go to AI agents in the main navigation.
- Click Create new agent in the top-right corner.
You’ll be taken to the Agent Playground — a visual workspace where you can configure your agent and immediately see the results.
Step 2: Connect your website
Enter your website URL.
- Eloquent automatically retrieves your sitemap
- All pages are indexed to train your agent on your website content
- Your website is re-indexed automatically every 24 hours
This allows your AI agent to answer questions using your most up-to-date content. Learn more about creating a knowledge base for your AI agent.
Step 3: Choose an interface type
Select how your AI agent appears on your website:
Chatbot
- A conversational assistant that helps visitors with questions and navigation
- Ideal for general assistance, support, and discovery
- Supports an optional pop-up message to proactively engage visitors
Center stage
- A central, immersive interface that blocks most of the website UI
- Designed for specialized or focused tasks
- Best suited for in-depth workflows or expert interactions
You can switch between interface types at any time in the playground. Learn more about the appearance of your AI agent.
Step 4: Select an AI model
Choose the language model that powers your agent:
- OpenAI
- Anthropic
- Gemini
- Mistral
Each model has different strengths in tone, reasoning, and performance. You can change models at any time to compare results instantly.
Step 5: Customize the experience
Use the playground to tailor the agent to your brand and audience:
- Brand colors: Match the agent to your website’s visual identity.
- Interface language: Set the primary language the agent will use.
- Suggestions (up to 4): Provide example questions or actions to guide users.
- Temperature: Control how creative or deterministic the agent’s responses are.
- Prompt configuration:
- Choose from predefined prompt presets
- Or write your own custom prompt for full control
All changes are reflected live in the playground. Learn more about what makes an AI agent.
Step 6 (Optional, but essential for B2B): Enable B2B visitor tracking
If you operate in B2B, this step is strongly recommended. Enable B2B visitor tracking to allow your AI agent to identify companies visiting your website based on IP data. You can enable tracking from the agents integrations menu.
When enabled:
- Visiting companies are automatically identified
- All interactions—page views, agent conversations, and clicks—are logged per company
- Sessions are tracked even if no conversation with the agent takes place
These insights provide high-value intent signals for sales and marketing teams, such as:
- Which companies are actively exploring your website
- What content or topics they engage with
- When a company shows buying or research intent
For B2B organizations, this turns your AI agent into a lead intelligence tool, not just a chatbot. More about this feature can be found here.
Step 7: Test your agent live
While configuring your agent, you can:
- See all visual and behavioral changes instantly
- Interact with the agent as a visitor would
- Test different prompts, models, and settings in real time
This makes it easy to fine-tune the agent before publishing it on your website.
